Pay U.S. consular fees via ATF Bank

Attention! Official information from the U.S. Embassy about consular fees:

Effective October 20, 2009, all applicants for non-immigrant visas must pay the visa application fee of $131 at an ATF bank in tenge based on the exchange rate established by the U.S. Embassy. One copy of the receipt must be submitted with the visa application and sent via DHL Express. The second copy of the receipt must be presented at the time of the interview. After October 20, 2009, all applicants who have not submitted their consular fee receipt, visa application and passport via DHL Express will not be admitted to the Embassy for the interview.

University Foundation Course How to apply to US University”

Dates & place: AKEAC office, 14, September – 02, October, 2009

Class duration: 2 hour session (45 min each class + 15 min break) x 12 lessons

Training schedule: Monday-Wednesday-Friday in-class lectures + Saturdays practice tasks

Content: During the course participants will learn and practice the following topics.

  1. US Education System and Application Procedure Steps
  2. Choosing Major / Finding Your School
  3. Designing Personal Study Plan Building My Career
  4. Requesting application materials and correspondence with admissions
  5. Financial Aid Search / Scholarship Program presentation (AUBG)
  6. Standard Examinations / English proficiency and admission tests (TOEFL, ACT, SAT)
  7. Academic Writing Skills / Essay Composition / Resume and Cover Letter
  8. Presentation Skills / Successful Interview Techniques
  9. Obtaining US Student Visa / Coping with Culture Shock

After completing the course students will be able to:

· Understand the US Education System and admission process

· Select universities using various criteria

· Prepare documents required for entering to a foreign university, including statement of purpose, transcripts, resume

· Take standard exams using self-study approach

To receive a certificate, a student must complete all assignments and receive final mark B min. Only 2 C+ are possible. Every trainee will be rewarded according to his/her progress. All “A” students will be granted EAC Membership Card which costs 2,000 KZT. Best student’s success in each course will be recognized additionally.

The focus will be on all available academic and professional exchanges for international students, including programs for students in Asia and the Middle East. We will give special attention to popular exchange programs such as the Fulbright, Humphrey and Gilman scholarships, as well as programs for undergraduate and high school study in America. Questions regarding English language programs, academic advising and the visa process, as well as adjusting to America and culture shock, are also welcome.

Before assuming her current position as director of international admissions at American University in Washington, Evelyn Levinson spent more than 20 years in the field of educational advising, with a focus on the Middle East region. She has also worked as an academic adviser for EducationUSA at the State Department.

Aktobe ECA alumni visit State Alumni Round Table in Aktau

On August 1-2, 2009, Aktobe ECA alumni took part in the State Alumni Round Table in in Aktau, Kazakhstan. Alumni from Western Kazakhstani cities (Uralsk, Aktobe, and Atyrau) gathered on the Caspian seashore to brainstorm about creating a Western Kazakhstani Alumni Association.
Karlygash Amanzhanova, 2006 FLEX alumna, has been delegated by the AKEAC.

This event has been supported by the US State Department’s Democracy Outreach alumni grant awarded to Yertore Orazay, a Muskie alumnus.
